The main characters of Beauty and the Beast are Belle which means beautiful in French and the Beast who got his name because he was hideous and looked like a beast! But in the end, the Beast became a prince anyway.
There cannot be 35 main characters, but there may be that many supporting roles with lines and some with songs. All probably make up the chorus.
I would say Belle, the Beast, and I think that the candle stick and the clock are important characters too.
