What does a makeup/beauty consultation consist of?

I'm thinking of booking one with my local MAC store, but I would like to know what it consists of before I do and how long does it normally take? What does a makeup/beauty consultation consist of?
when i had a make up consultation the basically looked at my skin tone, eye colour, texture of my skin, sensitivity to products and then started to give examples of products that would help make my skin and face look better, after this the consultant applied products and make up to show me what would work best,What does a makeup/beauty consultation consist of?
usually she will spend about 15 mins ? you sit down and exchange pleasantries. you will tell her about your skin, your current regime and she will make suggestions. she will ask you about your current use of cosmetics and the look you would like to achieve. are you there for a glamour girl / special occasion look, do you prefer natural everyday , she should teach you how to use THEIR products , suggest colors / and teach you basic application of make up.

The key is to understand that she is there to sell you MAC Line. The truth is Mac is a good line but there are many other fine products in the beauty world that work as good or better. Sometimes less and sometimes more money . You will probably not want to use all MAC line. They are kind of pricey and you should focus on the colors she selects and how you apply them properly. The technique / application is important to learn properly.

If you have any work at beauty shop / new style / color etc. you should do this first. have your make up consultation second.

have a great makeover ... you will get a pick me up from this i'm sure !

enjoy, but do not let these employees pressure you into uneeded sales. they keep a card with your name/ date of visit and the products they use. come back 24 hours later before you go crazy with the purchases that would equal a vacation.lol. Good luck.
beauty therapist in training =).

FACIAL CONSULTATION:

QUESTIONING: they sit you down and get your name, address, etc. they ask about your skin, home skincare routine, problem areas and treatment requirements.

VISUAL INSPECTION: this is when they look at the clients skin colour, texture, pore size and blemishes.

MANUAL INSPECTION: this is when they feel the smoothness, softness, firmness and hydration of the clients skin.

these all help the therapist build a picture of what the client needs from a facial treatment.

pretty much applies to all treatments.

Basically, it consists of trying to sell you things. My friend really likes her consultations at MAC, but they cost $50.00 to set up, and although that $50.00 goes toward purchases, they ultimately try to sell you a bunch of additional stuff. Just keep in mind that you are the customer and that you are not obligated to like or buy anything unless you really love it, and your experience will be more enjoyable. Good luck!
